Entropion - in-turning of the eyelid

Entropion is a malposition of the eyelid that results in inversion or turning in of the eyelid margin. The major consequence of entropion is ocular surface irritation and damage from eyelashes rubbing against the cornea and conjunctiva. Patients will often experience a chronic red and irritated eye. If untreated, entropion can cause an abrasion of the cornea leading to infection, scarring and vision loss. There are several types of entropion and each form is treated differently.

Involutional entropion is the most common variant and is caused by multiple factors including lower eyelid laxity, disinsertion of the lower eyelid retractors and overriding preseptal orbicularis muscle. The patient show below has involutional entropion of the left lower eyelid.

Dr. Korn utilizes the transconjunctival method for repair of involutional entropion. In this technique, add three causes of involutional entropion are simultaneously repaired resulting in a long lasting and natural result as seen below.
